About Alghero

Alghero is located on the north-western coast of Sardinia and has a population of approximately 42,000 people. It is a very pretty city that combines an untouched and completely pedestrianised medieval town centre with beautiful beaches and clear seas. Originally a fishing village, it was seized by the Genoese towards the end of the 12th and became an important fortress. The city then came under control of the Catalans in the 14th century and still has many Catalonian characteristics to this day.

There is a vibrant restaurant and cafe scene where visitors can sample the local wines and food and the local cuisine has an excellent reputation, especially for seafood dishes. The beautiful old town with its historic fortifications, the nearby beaches, caves, cliffs and the busy nightlife combine to make Alghero a truly great place to visit in its own right as well as being an ideal base from which to explore the rest of Sardinia.

Temperatures in Sardinia during the summer are in the range of 23 to 33 °C and the winters are mild with temperatures of between 10 and 20 °C.
